It should be stated up front, that I am an eccentric
person, one often called a jack of all trades, master of none. In
some ways this is a compliment while in others it is something of
an insult. Regardless of my attitude toward that label, I have to
admit that it fits.
I started this site as a way to force myself to
dedicate more time to creativity, something that used to be a much
larger part of my life. I am more confident of my artistic skill
than of my writing though I hope that both will continue to improve.
Both are done just for fun, bills and responsibilities forcing these
pursuits into the no mans land of hobby.
My art is inspired by many things. After an veritable
eternity of mind numbing school, I am still there, a biology major
with delusions of med-school. On the side, I am a chronic student
of anything that catches my fancy. The only true constant in my
interests is that almost all are historical. Egypt has had the longest
run, stemming from a childhood visit to the Rosicrucian Egyptian
Oriental Museum in San Jose, California. I fell instantly in love
with the mystery and art of that ancient culture. I've made some
study of other ancient civilizations, but this is the only one that
has never failed my curiosity.
I'm not a total bookworm however. After admiring
the skill of others, I finally took up the martial arts. I've also
conquered my fear of Jaws (which is the result of a decade of sporadic
shark study taking place just prior to every beach vacation I've
ever taken) and have discovered sailing is one of the most satisfying
pleasures of my life though something I do rarely.
I also like cars, which is a byproduct of having
a father that used to build street rods. If it made sense to go
back to school and learn how to be a mechanic I'd do it just for
the joy of making functional art. I also come from a family of pilots
and would one day like to become a flier myself. Perhaps these mechanical
fascinations explain why I enjoy sci-fi so much. In just my brief
time on earth, technology has changed dramatically. I wish I could
live to be 1,000 just to see where we will go and what we will find.
Currently, in between classes I have been exploring
the roots of mythology and comparative religion though not with
nearly as much gusto as I used to when I wasn't a full time student.
I still dabble in Elizabethan, Japanese and Egyptian history when
I get a free moment.
I've also readdicted myself to ceramic sculpture
and made all of my Christmas gifts last year and have fantasies
of doing it again this year (I have yet to start). I continue to
try to find time to write and have started working on an original
short story that comes to me in fits and bursts.
So there is a brief look into my head and a little
"where the hell has she been" information.
Having added to my stress load by returning to
school, I have even less time for this site, for which I am truly
sorry since I always feel better when I have something new to put
up here. I still intend to finish That's
Life, When Past Is
Present and Absentis Incendia but it is going to take me a while.
If you're actually enjoying something your reading here and it still
isn't finished - nag
me. I need it.
